AI In Writing, Acting and Journalism

How Artificial Intelligence has affected the writing and acting industries

Think – “Screen Writers and Actors” as well as the beloved book writer.  Artificial Intelligence has had an impact in the creative professions.

AI is crawling over many creative industries.  We’ll explore some of these issues in today’s post.

During the early days of 2023, there was an ongoing workers strike by the Writers Guild of America, Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. Using artificial intelligence to write scripts, make movies, and use actors’ and actresses’ likenesses in digital composites were a few of the issues raised. The guild called for tighter regulations and safeguards to help protect actors “against the unauthorized use of their voices, likenesses and performances.”  The strike also had an impact on directors, production assistants, hairdressers, make-up artists, caterers, prop makers, dry cleaners, stores, and more with a significant fall-down into other areas of the economy.

The publishing industry’s willingness to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) is significantly changing how books are edited, released, and read. While some are concerned that AI will replace human editors, others think it will just enhance their work and free them up to concentrate on more creative duties.  But do we really want SEO-optimized, AI-generated news stories to take over the many publications we have come to love and trust?

Editors may now more easily spot plagiarism in books thanks to AI algorithms that compare manuscripts to a sizable library of published works. Additionally, AI-based technologies provide tools for improving summary writing and determining reader preferences.

The Large Language Model (LLM), created by OpenAI, automatically generates content, such as articles, blog posts, or social media posts. As a result, businesses and professionals may be able to produce more accurate and educational content that will appeal to a wider consumer base.  However, LLM’s have a tendency to “hallucinate”.  That is a nice way of saying that they make things up – quite often.  So, in summary, just be careful and validate any information you may acquire from the LLM’s out there.
